The White Tiger pages 1-97

After reading about a third of this book, i am beginning to get a sense of what the country of India is really like. In the book, it talks about there being a "dark" side of India and a "light" side of India. Up until the previous chapter, the story has taken place in the so called "Darkness." This place is really scary to me, and i would definitely NOT (with a capitol NOT) live, or even go to this place. It's a monstrosity. Here are the things that I dislike about the "Darkness"
  1. The people live in straw huts, with multiple families living there.
  2. Most of the food that the family gets is given to the family water buffalo because they use the water buffalo to work the very infertile fields.
  3. Most money is given to one of the 4 "landlords". These are people who claim to be in charge of all of the people in the "darkness"
  4. There is a very bad school system and most of the people are illiterate.
  5. The majority of people with serious diseases (like the main character's father, who had leukemia) don't get seen because due to some legal issues, doctors are not required to show up to work.
  6. The caste system really sucks. End of discussion

These are some things that bother me about this book's setting.
